Issue 30: Why Your Pelvic Health Matters During Pregnancy
It comes as no surprise that having a baby can affect your bladder and bowel control. 1 in 3 people have trouble holding their wee during pregnancy or just after giving birth. up to 1 in 4 people have accidental bowel leakage while pregnant.
That’s a lot of people!
But there’s good news— you can help prevent this!
What Is the Antenatal Pelvic Health Class?
The Antenatal Pelvic Health Class has been specially created to help you take care of your pelvic health during pregnancy.
- What happens to your bladder, bowel, and pelvic area while you’re pregnant
- Why some people have accidental wee or poo leaks and how to prevent it
- What are perineal tears? – how we as health professionals treat them, and how you can help prevent them
- How to keep your body strong so you can feel better during and after your pregnancy
Everyone is invited to attend a live online class where you can ask questions.
Your midwife will ask you some questions about your pelvic health around 16 weeks pregnant and will refer you to the antenatal pelvic health class. You will then receive information about the upcoming dates and links to join the class from the physiotherapy team. If this doesn’t suit you, then you can watch a recorded version here above.
By learning about your pelvic floor muscles— the muscles that support your bladder, bowel, and uterus — you can take control of your health. This class will help you stay strong, feel confident, and enjoy pregnancy with less worry.
Taking care of yourself now means a healthier future!
